A friend and co-worker got married last weekend. Today he was back in the office briefly, and I asked him how the married man was. His response: happy.
Happy. It struck me that could be the best adjective you could give to marriage. Everything else kinda boils down to that, doesn't it? Being taken care of makes me happy. Waking up next to him makes me happy. Having him to talk to makes me happy. Knowing he loves me makes me happy. His smile makes me happy. See?
So next time your husband gets out of the shower and tracks water all over the floor for the bazillionth time even though you've asked him not to because you don't like getting your feet wet just to go use the sink...it's good to remember how happy you were as a newlywed, and that this person still makes you happy, and then the wet feet don't matter so much anymore.
(Maybe I should've saved this post for our five-year anniversary coming up in two weeks...I can't wax poetic all the time.)

I'm happy you're happy.
Thanks for the reminder. Even if when you love the person, happiness takes continual intentional effort.
Aw. And hahahahahahaha!
Somehow I missed this post, but I love it!
It makes me happy just to think about Chris.
